This year's Golf Challenge featured our largest field of golfers yet and we would like to extend our thanks to all those who participated and especially to all those who donated to the golfers. Your contributions make a big difference in the lives of our young people! CONTACT 423 E. Cucharras Street Our Services: Transitional Housing: The Place is a licensed 20-bed transitional housing facility for homeless and runaway youth. The Place features separate dormitory-style sleeping quarters for male and female clients, showers, laundry facilities, a complete industrial-grade kitchen, and large dining space. Services offered for residents of The Place include three meals each day, active case management, educational and employment assistance, health services, and recreational activities. Street Outreach: Street outreach is conducted by UPCS case management staff and trained outreach volunteers, who seek out homeless and runaway youth on the streets of Colorado Springs to encourage youth to access resources available through UPCS. Intensive Case Management: Components of case management may include mental health assessment and intervention; legal advocacy; counseling referrals; GED instruction; employment placement assistance; substance abuse counseling; and independent living program referrals. Health & Medical Care: The Place includes a fully equipped medical clinic staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants through Peak Vista Community Health. Services range from general medical treatment of colds and infections to general preventative care. Education Assistance: The Place offers GED instruction to youth in an on-site educational center staffed by a certified teacher in partnership with the School District 11 Adult Education Program. An on-site computer lab provides youth with a means to access educational web sites, complete computerized GED practice tests, and develop technological literacy through special interest workshops. Job Placement and Employment Assistance: UPCS works in partnership with the Pikes Peak Workforce Center to offer employment placement to its clients, and collaborates with local businesses to secure job opportunities and provide volunteer employment mentors to youth. Residents of The Place also have the opportunity to participate in a life skills program during which they learn basic skills such as resume development, application completion, and interview skills. Additional Supportive Housing Options: UPCS provides program support to youth with disabilities who are residing in seven apartment units through the HUD Supported Housing Program. |
